Course Breakdown

  • Module One: Introduction and Welcome
  • Challenging attitudes exist in every boardroom, audience and classroom. Learn to understand what causes these attitudes and find out how to address them so you can maintain control of even the most challenging participants. In this 2 hour program you will learn how to control apathetic, negative and despondent participants so they don’t control you.
  • Module Two: Stop Interruptions
  • Come across completely confident, save, and trustworthy. Ask yourself this question: Are you naturally confident? 50% of the world was born confident. The other 50% were born nurturing. Here’s the key: it’s not whether you’re confident or not. It’s whether you show it. In this session, you’ll learn how to show it, whether you’re naturally confident or not.
  • Module Three: Handle Negativity
  • Maintain a positive learning environment. Negative people tend to either find fault with you or the class, resent being there in the first place, or heckle their way through to cover up something underneath.

It’s important to understand the motivation of such people who are at a training. They are often people who were required to attend, and they resent it. They come with an attitude that is not conducive to learning or to useful dialogue. Rudolf Dreikurs would say their misbehavior is just the manifestation of desire for revenge, misdirected at the speaker rather than toward whoever required his or her presence. Learn how to maintain a positive learning environment, even with them in the room.
  • Module Four: Manage Inattention
  • Motivate people to listen and perform. I suggest a challenge: Find a way to keep the people in your room as stimulated and engaged as you are as a speaker. You may already have a number of valuable techniques that will work to keep the attention of nearly anyone in the room. But for some people, you’ll need a few other tricks up your sleeve.
